Danny Driver studied at Cambridge University and the Royal College of Music. He first attracted public attention by winning both the Royal Over-Seas League Competition Keyboard Award and the title of BBC Radio 2 Young Musician of the Year in 2001. A successful recital debut at the Wigmore Hall followed as did prizes at several further national and international piano competitions.
Danny has performed with orchestras such as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, Tel-Aviv Soloists, American Symphony Orchestra, and Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra. He has given acclaimed recitals at major British venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, and Wigmore Hall in London, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, and Symphony Hall in Birmingham, and appears at numerous festivals and recital series in the UK and abroad.
Danny Driver is a Hyperion recording artist. His first CD, featuring York Bowen’s 3rd and 4th Piano Concertos with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra under Martyn Brabbins, was released in 2008 to a chorus of critical acclaim: ‘Masterly, stylish, and full of dazzling pianism’ said the UK’s Daily Telegraph, while the American Record Guide exclaimed ‘Absolutely stunning… What a way to be introduced to the music of York Bowen!’ Driver’s eagerly awaited survey of York Bowen’s six Piano Sonatas will be released in November 2009.
